Job Description

Position Title: Food Service Assistant #1

Kitchen Manager, Food Service Director and/or Principal/Assistant Principal

Status:
Ten (10) month position (17.5 hrs/week; 3.5 hrs/day; 10:15 a.m.

- 1:45 p.m.)

SUMMARY:

The Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by assisting the Kitchen Manager and the Food Service Supervisor in the overall management and organization of the food service program all while providing excellent customer service to staff, students and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must move into Manager’s position when manager is absent.
  • Rotates every other week on running the cash register and serving customers during lunchtime. Perform cash out procedure if on a register.
  • Helps with preparing side dishes and assembling foods.
  • Assist with recording on daily Food Production Records (FPR).
  • Prepare condiments needed for lunch. If using cups and packets, record beginning counts on FPR. If using bulk, weigh, and record weight to FPR.
  • Helps wash and sanitize dishes.
  • Assists in putting stock away.
  • Replenish food as needed.
  • Help with taking hot and cold temperatures and recording them on FPR.
  • Clean and sanitize serving equipment, countertops and legs of tables.
  • Helps clean and sanitize milk cooler twice a month.
  • Take trash out.
  • Helps clean and sanitize milk cooler twice a month.
  • Helps with taking hot and cold temps and recording them.
  • Label, date and store leftover food in cooler.
  • Delime dishwasher once a month (+15 mins).
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Regular, predictable in-person attendance.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Supervisor.

Note:
Food Service Employees running a register must maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts and need to keep all computer register components clean and free of dust. This includes: computer register/monitor, keyboard, mouse, cord and computer stand.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions;
  • Ability to work with the general public and students.

COMPUTER SKILLS :

  • Basic computer skills.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS :

  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly;
  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision;
  • Accurate and detail oriented; and
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone.

The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
