Summary
The Finishing Operator is responsible for operating finishing equipment to prepare aluminum product for shipping to customers. The operator will learn to safely operate homogenizing furnaces and cooling chambers, use band saws, lathes, and other finishing equipment, and follow product routing to produce finished products that meet customer specifications while meeting production schedules.
The position offers flexible shift options and turnover, allowing work on either a 5am‑5pm or 5pm‑5am schedule with rotating shifts that include two 3‑day weekends off per month. Overtime is built into the schedule, and additional overtime is available. Wage ranges from $17.50 per hour (no experience) to $24.00 per hour (with relevant manufacturing experience). Incentives are provided for night shift work, cross‑training, and regular merit increases.

- Organize and maintain housekeeping of the finishing and ingot storage areas.
- Receive instructions and necessary information from the supervisor and control room operator, working primarily in a self‑directed environment.
- Load and unload homogenization furnaces and cooling chambers in a timely manner, selecting the appropriate process.
- Operate homogenization furnaces and cooling chambers, inputting and monitoring information on equipment controls.
- Set up and operate saws and lathes, selecting proper feeds and speeds.
- Load and unload machines with the aid of a forklift or overhead crane, positioning material as required.
- Unload equipment after the process and deliver material to the next area of operation as required.
- Place material crops and chips in scrap boxes according to alloy.
- Inspect the quality of material during and after processes to ensure the piece is in spec per customer requirements using approved methods and SOPs.
- Record material dimensions using appropriate measuring instruments and follow SOPs.
- Report defective material and faulty equipment to the General Manager or Maintenance Department immediately.
- Identify all material handled by stamping or marking with necessary identification when required as specified.
- Maintain communication about product schedule with the control room operator.
- Aid in scheduling workflow through the area.
- Complete paperwork and input information into the computer system to track products through the process.
- Perform basic maintenance inspections and care on machines.
- Check and maintain all equipment in proper working condition.
- Check thermocouples for proper operation and change as required.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Abide by all plant safety regulations and work rules.
- Maintain inventory of needed supplies to perform duties.
- Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
- Must pass a minimal physical test and background screening.
- Candidates must be able to work any shift.
- Physical effort required includes standing, stooping, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to cross‑train.
- Ability to identify problems, inform others, and assist in the solving of such problems.
- Judgment and decision‑making abilities to prevent errors, scrap parts, safety hazards, or other poor results relating to job duties.
- Ability to read and interpret work documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, quality instructions, and other related documents.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
- Abide by all policies and procedures established by the company, including plant safety regulations and work rules.
- Promote a safety culture and ensure compliance with safety policies and rules.
- Provide for continuous reduction of workplace hazards, risks, and employee accidents.
