Special Process Engineer – Dayton Area
A growing aerospace manufacturing company that produces complex engine components and assemblies for major OEM customers across commercial and defense markets is seeking a Special Process Engineer. This organization supports precision machining and fabrication in a regulated, high-performance environment.
Position Overview: This role reports to the Quality Manager and is responsible for ensuring that all special processes meet internal and customer quality requirements from development through production. The position focuses on process control, compliance, risk identification, and continuous improvement across critical manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to resolve technical and quality issues related to special processes
- Review and maintain process documentation to ensure compliance with customer specifications and quality system requirements
- Monitor industry and customer-driven changes to special process requirements and support implementation
- Support development of process documentation, work instructions, and tooling concepts
- Investigate nonconformances and lead corrective actions for special process-related issues
- Maintain calibration systems and review related documentation for compliance
- Support certification and recertification activities for special processes to industry and customer standards
- Participate in and support internal audit programs related to special processes
- Oversee key controlled processes such as heat treat and associated pyrometry requirements
- Support contract review activities related to process and quality requirements
- Prepare and present data packages for customer approvals
- Interpret and apply customer specifications and technical standards
- Train internal personnel on applicable quality and customer requirements
- Support first article and production validation activities as needed
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Experience with aerospace quality systems such as AS9100 and related standards (AS9102, APQP/PPAP)
- Experience working with controlled/special processes in a regulated manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with NADCAP or equivalent special process accreditation systems preferred
- Background in aerospace, precision machining, or complex manufacturing strongly preferred
- Prior experience in quality engineering or process engineering roles
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
