Summary

To provide direct instruction to students at the elementary level in order to deliver Hudson Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach subject content to students
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of all students
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested outlined in the collective bargaining agreement
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, email and other means to discuss student’s progress and interpret the school program
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
  • Responsible for the promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including implementing specific strategies for students with special needs, with 504 plans and/or second language learners
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts DESE license in the required subject at the appropriate level
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge in content and teaching strategies, as well as implementation of relevant technology
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred
  • SEI Endorsement
Terms of Employment
  • Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • 183 work days, 3 personal days, 13 sick days, 6.5 hours/day
  • Benefit Eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start date
