SUMMARY:

The Speech and Language Pathologist will provide speech and language services to students in the Hudson Public Schools. Duties include and are not limited to: direct and indirect service, supervision of SLPA, evaluation of students, MTSS services and consultation with teachers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct speech and language service to students who qualify for such service
  • Evaluate, write reports and make recommendations regarding speech and language services to students
  • Consult with regular and special education teachers, as well as parents or guardians regarding speech and language needs and/or services
  • Collaborate with other service providers regarding the development of goal and the writing and implementation of IEP's
  • Establish and maintain a system of documentation that is professional, efficient and accountable and conforms to state and individual agency policy IEP's, initial and three year evaluations and progress reports provided on the same frequency basis as report cards, which varies by grade level
  • Supervise speech and language assistants in providing direct service to students
  • Collaborate with regular and special education teachers regarding modification of student assignments to accommodate any speech and language objectives
  • Presentation and interpretation of any speech and language evaluations to parents, teachers or others
  • Supervision and provision of speech and language services within the self- contained programs at any particular level
  • Participation in preschool and kindergarten screening and evaluation, if appropriate
  • Carry out other related special education duties as may be assigned by their supervisor(s)
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Qualifications:

  • Massachusetts State Speech and Language Pathologist license required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

PHYSICAL

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building.
  • The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs. (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.).
  • The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools.
  • Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer).
  • In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction.
  • The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • 10 months, 183 work days
  • 3 personal days, 13 sick days, prorated pursuant to date of hire
