SummaryTo provide direct instruction to students at the elementary level in order to deliver Hudson Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach subject content to students.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of all students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Strive to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives through instruction and action.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested by the collective bargaining agreement.
- Communicate with parents through conferences, email and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
- Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Responsibility for promoting equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including implementing strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and second‑language learners.
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
- Massachusetts DESE license in the required subject at the appropriate level.
- SEI Endorsement.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge in content and teaching strategies, as well as implementation of relevant technology.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull up to 20 lbs for short periods, walk up and down stairs several times a day, use hands and operate computer and office machinery. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
183 work days, 3 personal days, 13 sick days, 6.5 hours/day.
