SUMMARY

The Speech and Language Pathologist will provide speech and language services to students in the Hudson Public Schools. Duties include and are not limited to: direct and indirect service, supervision of SLPA, evaluation of students, MTSS services, and consultation with teachers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct speech and language service to students who qualify for such service
  • Evaluate, write reports, and make recommendations regarding speech and language services to students
  • Experience with students who have an autism diagnosis
  • Experience with PECS and AAC devices for students
  • Consult with regular and special education teachers, as well as parents or guardians regarding speech and language needs and/or services
  • Collaborate with other service providers regarding the development of goals and the writing and implementation of IEPs
  • Establish and maintain a system of documentation that is professional, efficient, and accountable and conforms to state and individual agency policy; IEPs, initial and three‑year evaluations, and progress reports provided on the same frequency as report cards, which varies by grade level
  • Supervise speech and language assistants in providing direct service to students
  • Collaborate with regular and special education teachers regarding modification of student assignments to accommodate any speech and language objectives
  • Presentation and interpretation of any speech and language evaluations to parents, teachers or others
  • Supervision and provision of speech and language services within the child‑development programs at any particular level
  • Participation in preschool and kindergarten screening and evaluation, if appropriate
  • Carry out other related special education duties as may be assigned by supervisors
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Massachusetts Speech and Language Pathologist license
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building
  • May often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time; may be required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Expected to lift at least 20 lbs. (e.g., books, school supplies)
  • Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; use hand strength to grasp tools
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, computer printer)
  • Must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis to ensure safety and provide instruction
  • Will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • 10 months, 183 work days
  • 2 personal days, 12 sick days, prorated pursuant to date of hire
  • Benefit eligibility on start date; 30 days to enroll in coverage from start date
