Position: ABA Therapist (FY27)

ABA Therapist/ Behavior Tech

Hudson Public Schools is hiring for multiple ABA Therapists throughout the district (all levels). This position is accountable for providing assistance based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The ABA Therapist supports the classroom teacher or other certified personnel in delivering high-quality instruction, fostering student growth, and promoting a safe and structured learning environment. Responsibilities include assisting with educational and recreation activities, behavioral support, data collection, classroom organization and maintenance, and school-community relations.

Professionalism, sound judgment, and adherence to Hudson Public Schools' policies are essential.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the classroom teacher by reviewing, correcting and reinforcing lessons with individual and small groups of students, reading stories aloud, assisting in math concepts, reinforcing recognition of the letters of the alphabet and other activities associated with the curriculum.
  • Assisting in the preparation and inventory of instructional materials and the setting-up operating and maintenance of various learning aids, and equipment.
  • Assisting in the wash-up and lavatory routines, assisting in the supervision of breakfast and/or lunch periods.
  • Assisting the classroom teacher in clerical work which may include, but not limited to, recording daily attendance, cataloging and filing instructional materials.
  • Assisting the classroom teacher during the work day in fostering greater understanding within the school-community by means of open communications with school personnel and students.
  • Contributing to a warm and open atmosphere so that all students will have the opportunity to grow and develop to their fullest potential.
  • Supporting and teaching students with moderate to severe special needs, including significant behavioral challenges, academic challenges, and deficits in activities of daily living.
  • Reading and implementing a Behavior Support Plan of all the students developed by the teacher and in collaboration with the classroom teacher. This includes collecting daily behavior data to be reported on progress reports and used to develop IEPs.
  • Implementing ABA techniques including, but not limited to, discrete trials, adaptive skills (e.g., toileting, feeding, arrival and dismissal routines), task analysis, natural environment teaching, and social skills training. This also includes following appropriate prompt hierarchies such as verbal and physical hierarchies.
  • Willingness to maintain on-going certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) which includes physical capabilities to assist with protective holds and student escorts.
  • Performing any other tasks and assuming other responsibilities as the Building Administrator or designee may from time to time assign and delegate.

Qualifications:

  • An Associate degree, or 48 undergraduate college credits
  • Preferably experience with working with students with autism spectrum disorders and/or applied behavior analysis
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
  • Work year:

    • $500 sign on bonus (after 40 days)
    • 10 months. 183 work days, 3 personal days, 12 sick days prorated pursuant to date of hire
    • This is a salaried position distributed over 26 paychecks including a lump sum in June to cover summer pay

    While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer).

    Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking and hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field.
