SUMMARY:

Hudson Maynard Adult Education is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Citizenship Instructor to teach adults preparing to become United States citizens. The instructor will plan and deliver engaging citizenship preparation lessons. Teach U.S. history, government, and civics. Prepare students for the naturalization interview and new citizenship test.

In-person instruction is required, but the ability to teach remotely may also be necessary on snow days. Class hours are from 6:00 – 9:00 PM (report to site at 5:30) once a week.

Classes will be offered from January 13 to April 7, 2027.

DESE Grant-Funded Teacher Pay Rate: $37 per hour of instruction plus paid prep time

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and deliver engaging citizenship preparation lessons
• Teach U.S. history, government, and civics
• Prepare students for the naturalization interview and citizenship test
• Support students in developing English language and interview skills as needed
• Maintain student attendance and other required program records
• Create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
• Communicate with Adult Education staff regarding student progress and program needs.
• Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times
• Ensure the classroom and work are kept clean and orderly
• Uphold an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience
• Conduct instruction remotely via Google Meet, if needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Experience with English Language Learners (ELLs) required, citizenship, social studies, or a related subject preferred
• Experience with citizenship preparation, social studies, or a related subject preferred
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
• Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints
• Salary: $37.00 per hour plus prep time 1:1
