The Town of Hudson Department of Public Works is accepting applications to fill multiple Laborer openings.

Applications are available online or in the DPW office, and will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis at the Office of the Director of Public Works, 1 Municipal Drive, Hudson, MA 01749.

Semi-skilled or skilled manual work on construction, maintenance or repair projects. Related work as required.

• Performs a variety of routine and respective tasks that may occasionally be carried out independently but with work checked during progress and upon completion for satisfactory performance.
• Makes few contacts beyond immediate associates.
• Some effort required to correct errors.
• Continuous and strenuous physical effort demanded in operating equipment, standing and lifting or carrying equipment, tools and materials while performing duties under varying weather conditions.

• Works with asphalt and bituminous materials surfacing, resurfacing and patching streets, sidewalks, parking areas and bridges. Performs manual work in digging and in back filling excavations, handles heavy materials on construction, maintenance and repair projects.
• Cuts grass, loams, seeds and lines playing fields.
• Tests and repairs water meters, replacing defective parts and performing necessary adjustment; keeps continuous record of meter installations and repairs.
• Taps water mains and connects services. Lays pipe and installs sewer services. Cleans storm sewers and catch basins. Cleans and rods sanitary sewers.
• Shovels snow and removes ice and snow from walks, steps, drives, and pavements. Operates equipment in snow plowing and removal and sanding and/or salting streets, sidewalks, parking lots, etc.
• Works as mechanical handyman assisting in servicing and maintaining equipment. Paints and repairs street signs, equipment and structures.
• Sets curbing, constructs manholes and catch basins, retaining walls, and performs other masonry work.

Elementary school education. Qualifying experience in public works construction and experience. Ability to lift heavy objects and to work continuously under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. CDL License. Incumbent must be available for overtime for emergencies and sanding and plowing operations.

The Town of Hudson Department of Public Works will train a qualified candidate. They will be enrolled in a driving school as part of their employment with the Town. The candidate will be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License, MA CDL as a condition of employment.
