Position Overview

Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center (SRVRTC) is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and enthusiastic Work-Based Learning & Career Coordinator. The successful candidate will oversee, expand, and manage SRVRTC's comprehensive Work-Based Learning (WBL) program, including internships, job shadowing, co-ops, and apprenticeships.

The goal is to maximize student engagement with local industries, build foundational professional skills, and establish clear career pathways. While the ideal candidate will have strong experience in career counseling or industry relations, they must possess the versatility to support and coordinate opportunities across all six of SRVRTC's core programs.

Program Development & Launch

Design and implement a brand-new, structured Work-Based Learning program framework, including extended learning opportunities (ELOs), internships, job shadowing, and youth apprenticeships.
  • Establish Compliance & Safety Systems:
Create the foundational legal paperwork, student training plans, evaluation rubrics, and insurance verification workflows, ensuring complete alignment with state labor laws and school board policies.
  • Student Intake & Placement:
Develop a screening process to assess student career interests, evaluate workplace readiness, and orchestrate initial student placements in business environments.
  • Cultivate New Business Alliances:
Serve as the founding liaison between SRVRTC and the local business community. Actively cold-call, network with, and recruit local employers, chambers of commerce, and workforce boards to secure inaugural placement sites.
Program WBL & Career Focus Areas
  • Medical Assisting
    :
Establish initial clinical placements, healthcare job shadowing, and direct pipelines to local clinics and hospitals.
  • Culinary Arts
    :
Launching new restaurant/catering co-ops and securing hands-on commercial kitchen placements.
  • Small Business
    :
Creating small business mentorship frameworks, chamber of commerce partnerships, and local marketing internships.
  • Plumbing & HVAC

Setting up new registered youth apprenticeships and field-work partnerships with local contractors.
  • Machine Tool
    :
Coordinating new manufacturing facility tours and paid co-ops with regional precision machining firms.
  • Building Construction
    :
Securing on-site construction project placements and structural partnerships with local builders and trade unions.
Job Requirements

Required:
  • Program Building: A strong willingness and initiative to build and start programs, projects, or business partnerships.
  • Industry or Networking

    Experience:

Strong background in workforce development, human resources, career options, or community relations.
  • Adaptability:
Proven willingness and ability to quickly learn the specific operational needs, terminology, and safety standards across all six of SRVRTC's diverse program areas.
  • Organization & Compliance:
Exceptional organizational skills to manage student data, legal compliance contracts, and schedules across multiple off-site locations.
  • Communication:
Outstanding interpersonal and public speaking skills to effectively pitch the value of a brand-new SRVRTC program to local business leaders and students.
Preferred:
  • Valid state certification/licensure for Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Career & Technical Education, or School Counseling (or eligibility to obtain a provisional/alternative license).
