Company Description The Early Learning Center (ELC) in Hudson, New Hampshire, is part of the Hudson School District (SAU 81) and serves students in kindergarten and first grade across two school buildings:
Library Street School and Dr. H.O. Smith School. The ELC is dedicated to providing a strong foundation for young learners through developmentally appropriate instruction, a supportive and inclusive environment, and close partnerships with families. The school's focus on early literacy, community building, and student-centered learning aligns closely with the role of a Library Media Specialist, who supports reading development, information literacy, and a lifelong love of learning.

The district emphasizes collaboration among educators and staff to ensure that every child receives a well-rounded educational experience.

Role Description The Library Media Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Hudson, NH. This role is responsible for managing the ELC library media center, primarily housed in the Dr. H.O. Smith School, including organizing and maintaining print and digital collections, supporting information literacy, and promoting a love of reading across grade levels. The Library Media Specialist collaborates with educators to integrate library resources into curriculum, designs instructional activities that build research and media skills, and assists learners and staff in locating and using information effectively.

Daily responsibilities include providing reference and circulation services, overseeing library operations and technology tools, coordinating library programs and events, and ensuring an inclusive, welcoming environment for all members of the school community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in Library Science, Education, or related field preferred.
  • State certification or licensure as a Library Media Specialist (or eligibility to obtain) in accordance with New Hampshire requirements.
  • Enjoys working with Kindergarten and First Grade students and collaborating with their teachers for a positive learning environment
  • Strong foundation in Library Science and Library Services, including cataloging, collection development, and reference support.
  • Experience with School Library Media programs and the integration of digital resources and educational technologies.
  • Skills in Curriculum Development and collaboration with educators to align library resources with instructional goals.
  • Demonstrated abilities in Library Management, including organization of materials, scheduling, and day-to-day operations.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
  • Comfort with educational technology, digital research tools, and learning management systems.
  • Commitment to equitable access to information and resources, and to fostering an inclusive, student-centered library environment.
