Court Security Officer

Per Diem Court Security Officer – 1st Circuit Court, Berlin, NH

Work: 4 day per diem, $169.87/day. Position #: CT. ASAP.

Ensures safety of court staff and users by screening visitors, conducting security checks of premises, responding to incidents, greeting and assisting visitors, and assisting staff as needed.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 1 year of related security or law‑enforcement work, or equivalent training/experience.

• New Hampshire license to carry firearms (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license.

• Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and courtroom etiquette.
• Knowledge of NH statutes, rules, orders, policies, federal rules, and record retention guidelines.
• Familiarity with modern security equipment, techniques, and procedures.
• Understanding of court processes, policies, and legal documents.
• Ability to detect suspicious or explosive devices, weapons, hidden weapons.
• Firearms proficiency and basic first aid.
• Data gathering, compilation, planning, and analysis.
• Observation and attention to detail.
• Operation of court security equipment.
• Customer service and teamwork.
• Meeting schedules and deadlines, performing varied duties, and adapting to changing tasks.
• Clear verbal and written communication.
• Build effective relationships with associates, federal and state agencies, courts, and public.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• React calmly in stressful situations, maintain secure environment, recognize and react to emergencies, remain alert, demonstrate firearm use.

• Successful completion of background check including criminal records check.

• Provide security for judges, bar association members, court staff, and public.
• Protect privacy and safety of judges; maintain order and decorum.
• Observe public movement, question suspicious persons.
• Perform security screening; remove firearms, weapons, contraband.
• Provide routine information on court procedures to public, witnesses, litigants, attorneys.
• Inspect courtroom, judge’s chambers, and other areas; conduct perimeter checks for weapons, contraband, explosives.
• Provide security for prisoners, witnesses, public in courtroom and adjacent areas.
• Transport prisoners from courtroom to in‑court holding cells.
• Announce opening and closing of court sessions.
• Analyze potential disruptive situations and respond positively; maintain courtroom order.
• Escort unruly persons from court and enforce guidelines on noise, food, smoking.
• Provide general messenger service to judges and clerk’s office.
• Patrol physical areas of building and grounds.
• Conduct security control in parking lot; escort court staff to and from vehicles.
• Respond to assistance requests; provide initial first aid.
• Interact with state, county, and local law enforcement agencies.
• Complete weapons logs and incident reports.
• Exercise power of arrest when necessary.
