The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, has a full-time vacancy available for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

Summary:

To perform journeyman level diagnostic and repair work on fleet equipment to ensure its serviceability.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS:

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/

Experience:

Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in automotive mechanics, heavy equipment technology, or mechanically repairing and servicing heavy equipment.

License/Certification:

Valid driver’s license

Other Requirements:
  • Shall provide own standard assortment of automotive mechanic tools through 1”, 26 mm diameter and 1/2” drive, test light, and basic digital multi meter.
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the Department of Transportation.
  • Offers of employment are conditional upon the individual obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License medical card unless the candidate is currently employed by the State of New Hampshire.
  • Must receive a negative result on pre-employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements.
  • Must be able to lift/carry material weighing up to 50 lbs. on an intermittent basis.
  • Frequent climbing, reaching, twisting, bending, squatting, etc.
  • May be working in inclement weather or temperature extremes.
  • Must have a telephone or acceptable means of communication and be available 24 hours per day.

Trainee Option:
Candidates with an equivalent combination of 3+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school, or candidates that do not hold the required Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) but otherwise satisfy the minimum requirements, may be considered and hired in 'trainee status’ for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of apprenticeship training (8,000 hours) in automotive service and repair, heavy equipment technology or related field.

Possession of Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brakes.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B) with air brakes OR obtain such licensure within 1 year of hire
  • Must obtain vehicle Air
