Objective:
Responsible for setting up and operating centerless grinding machines used for grinding the outside diameters of metal parts.

• Monitors machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; stops machine when problems occur.
• Sets up and operates centerless grinders to grind metal work pieces.
• Operates centerless grinders to grind metal work pieces and places them in boxes or on racks; sets aside pieces that are defective.
• Selects and mounts grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.
• Performs basic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts.
• Removes and replaces worn or broken machine parts, using hand tools.
• Computes numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges and adjusts tools to produce specified cuts.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and a good understanding of math and measurements.

High school diploma or equivalent.

• Adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
• Ability to quickly move the hand together with the arm or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
• Precisely coordinate movements of fingers and both hands to manipulate or assemble objects.
• Recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
• Compare a presented object with a remembered object.
• Ability to compare similarities and differences among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns.

Must be able to sit and talk or hear, walk, climb stairs, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands, arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 to 70 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

The work environment requires wearing eye and hearing protection on the manufacturing floor and safety-toed shoes. The Grinding Operator will frequently spend time on the manufacturing floor as well as in the office.
