Job Summary

This is a developmental opportunity for active‑duty military personnel who will be separating from the military in the next 3‑6 months. The Skill Bridge Internship Program is designed to provide on‑the‑job training and experience in the civilian sector to Skill Bridge applicants. Incumbents will perform technical and/or clerical duties within the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, including receptionist tasks, multi‑line phone handling, and general office support, while learning professional skills and potentially gaining a long‑term career path.

Responsibilities
  • Provide entry‑level to intermediate professional administrative services under supervision.
  • Participate in projects and programs that develop professional skills.
  • Assist in planning and implementing Agency projects and initiatives.
  • Receive guidance, training, and mentoring from professional staff.
  • Conduct research and prepare reports with recommendations or alternative proposals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and files.
  • Create, update, and maintain specialized records and files.
  • Answer multi‑line phones, handle public inquiries, and perform receptionist duties.
  • Draft reports as requested.
  • Order and maintain office supplies; inventory items as needed.
  • Use various computer programs for data entry, searching, printing, and spreadsheet creation.
  • Collect and route incoming mail; process outgoing mail.
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and logistics for meetings and events.
  • Respond to written, electronic, and telephone inquiries from internal and external customers.
  • Assist with maintenance of computer‑based administrative, training, and instructional records.
  • Help Agency personnel with implementation and maintenance of new software programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be eligible for the DOD Skill Bridge program.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Selection Factors
  • Preferred:
    Six (6) months of experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Increase Knowledge of: modern office practices, keyboarding, word processing, filing, indexing, cross‑referencing, simple accounting, legal terminology, business English, punctuation, grammar, basic computer programs, spreadsheet functions.
  • Increase Skills in: the same areas as above.
  • Increase Ability to: communicate effectively orally and in writing; gather, organize, analyze, and present information; follow written and verbal instructions; work independently or in a team; manage time and multiple priorities; maintain effective working relationships; use work‑related computer technology; design formats for information; learn law enforcement terminals; retain complex policies; perform mathematical computations quickly; adjust to flexible deadlines; multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
