Position: Fabrication Designer 3

Job Description Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled, forward‑thinking Fabrication Designer 3 to join our growing manufacturing team. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in the design, development, and optimization of prefabricated electrical systems that enhance installation efficiency and reduce labor time in the field. This is more than a drafting role—it’s a hands‑on, solution‑oriented position that requires critical thinking, cross‑functional leadership, and a strong understanding of both design intent and constructability.

The ideal candidate will bring a high degree of technical knowledge, initiative, and precision, while also demonstrating the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across design, manufacturing, and field operations. You’ll be empowered to lead design solutions from concept through completion and help shape the future of our prefabrication strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Design and Modeling:
Lead the development of custom electrical components, modular assemblies, and prefabricated solutions using Revit, Inventor, or similar tools. Drive design innovation with an emphasis on fabrication simplicity, ease of installation, and system maintainability. Review and interpret construction documents, electrical schematics, and structural plans to inform and align detailed models with project goals. Perform technical audits of existing designs and proactively recommend enhancements for buildability and field value.
  • Collaboration with Teams:
Act as a design lead and point of contact for field teams, ensuring alignment on installation strategies and prefabrication opportunities. Participate in project kickoff meetings, constructability reviews, and coordination discussions with field leaders and project managers. Conduct site or shop visits (as needed) to gather real‑world feedback and implement iterative improvements based on field use. Support training and mentorship of junior designers or technicians on best practices, standards, and workflows.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
Lead concept development and R&D efforts for new prefabrication solutions, from prototyping through pilot implementation. Evaluate new materials, manufacturing methods, and tooling processes that could enhance performance and reduce cost. Influence long‑term design strategy and help standardize modular products that scale across multiple project types. Maintain awareness of construction trends, industry technologies, and emerging prefabrication strategies to drive continuous innovation.
  • Technical Coordination and Documentation:
Prepare and review detailed shop drawings, fabrication instructions, and assembly guides for accuracy and usability. Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), material take‑offs, and equipment schedules to support fabrication planning. Ensure full compliance with NEC (National Electrical Code), OSHA regulations, and internal quality standards throughout the design lifecycle. Track all design revisions and versioning to maintain accurate records and document control.
Qualifications

and Education Requirements
  • Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Two‑year degree in electrical construction, electrical design for construction or similar preferred. Welding knowledge and basic comprehension of metallurgy preferred.
  • Experience:

5+ years in electrical construction, electrical design for construction, or similar experience. Proven experience in a fast‑paced, multi‑project environment with field and fabrication exposure.
  • Skills:

Proficiency in Solid Works or Inventor; knowledge of Autodesk Revit a plus. Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and align cross‑functional teams. Excellent problem‑solving skills and a practical, hands‑on approach to challenges. Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail, accuracy, and quality. Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to convey complex ideas to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Understanding of prefabrication preferred; electrical systems, installation methods, NEC codes, and practices.
