Position: Maintenance Technician I

Maintenance Technician I (Maintenance)

YMCA in Hudson, WI is seeking strong technical skills in building systems and maintenance who has ability to troubleshoot and lead projects in keeping our facilities safe, efficient, and running smoothly. This position focuses on preventative and predictive maintenance, building safety, and day-to-day operations of essential systems. This is a hands‑on role with opportunities to learn, grow, and make a real impact on the safety and functionality of our facilities.

The salary for this position starts at $21.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part‑time or full‑time status.

Job Summary

Under the direction of a District Engineer, the Maintenance Technician I is responsible for the preventative/predictive maintenance program, general building safety/security, and safe, efficient operation of building systems. The MTI will be responsible for day-to-day duties including daily check lists and work orders, both and unscheduled.

Essential Functions
  • Learn & perform preventative and predictive maintenance duties including:
  • Maintain daily check logs on Pool, HVAC, Boiler, Utilities, Building Automation, and other essential systems.
  • Inspect HVAC and Boiler systems as PMs dictate for proper operation and for maintenance needs including replacing filters and belts, greasing, and cleaning coils and systems as needed.
  • Perform audits as PMs dictate on safety systems including eyewash and emergency shower stations, emergency lighting, fire egress routes and alarms, fire extinguishers, AEDs, etc.
  • Coordinate contracted PMs on required systems (one-man lifts, RPZs, fire monitoring and sprinkler, etc.).
  • Perform wholistic inspection of facilities for potential issues and repair as needed and/or report to District Engineer.
  • Maintain safe and organized work spaces within department assigned areas. Manage inventory of tools and supplies.
  • Learn and follow best practice for provided tools, machinery, testing equipment, and chemicals.
  • Perform basic maintenance repairs to the facility in the areas of plumbing and fixtures, electrical, carpentry, lighting, mechanical, pool systems, irrigation, walls and floors/finishes, etc. Assist District Engineer or other Technicians with additional repair and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to daily maintenance needs of other departments as requested in maintenance work order request software (Facility Dude). Complete work order forms to ensure adequate communication.
  • Respond to urgent/emergency situations (fire, evacuation, power failure, pool closure, etc.) at all district sites on short notice.
  • Interact with members, staff, and contractors to build and maintain a positive environment. Communicate to staff best practices for safe and effective operation of facility systems as trained by maintenance leadership.
  • Carry a cellular phone for communication and for urgent/emergency situations.
  • Provide security and safety oversight of the facilities and grounds by policies generated by maintenance leadership. Communicate requirements set by governing agencies and code (OSHA, state and local code, YMCA policy, etc.) to YMCA employees from other departments.
  • Attend/complete all required training opportunities.
  • Perform other maintenance related responsibilities as assigned by the District Engineer or VP of Facility Services.
Relationships
  • This position reports to the District Engineer who reports to the Vice President of Facility Services.
  • The incumbent interacts regularly with branch departments in responding to member concerns regarding maintenance issues.
Qualifications

Required:
  • Current Special Engineer's License or the ability to obtain special license within 9 months of full-time employment.
  • If applicable, current license(s) required for primary facility where the incumbent works or the ability to obtain license within 6 months of full-time employment.
