Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate horizontal multi‑axis lathes to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, facing and/or threading of parts.
  • Review blueprints, job breakdown sheets and QC documents of part to determine machine settings, specifications, fixtures and tools needed to produce the part.
  • Select and install tooling or preset tooling in tool posts, turret, arbors or indexing heads and tool magazine in sequence as defined on job breakdown sheets.
  • Mount workpiece between centers, on arbor, on a chuck or to a faceplate manually or using a hoist.
  • Observe numerical displays on control panel and compare to process sheets to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds of machining cuts.
  • Adjust and direct flow of coolant against tooling and workpiece.
  • Inspect first run piece and spot‑check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications using inspection equipment as specified on QC documents.
  • Study job packet and organize materials for next run to reduce change‑over time.
  • May set tools before positioning them in machine, using precision gauges and instruments.
  • May set up and operate another machine tool during machining cycles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machine and maintain cleanliness of work area.
  • Complete “Daily Operator Checklist” at the beginning of each shift or when moving to a new area.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Intermediate reading, writing, and arithmetic skills; typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent, or a 2‑degree program.

Two to five years’ experience with gear cutting, hobbing and lathe equipment in a manufacturing environment.

Computer literate with ability to learn and work statistical and manufacturing software applications; verbal and written communication skills required.

Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel) and statistical and manufacturer software proficiency a plus.

Shift Details

Sunday through Thursday

10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Shift differential is $4.00 per hour additional.

Candidate would need to be able to train on 1st shift.
