Summary: To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the Building Principal and Director of Special Services.
- Provide specialized instruction in a center-based program for students having autism spectrum disorder.
- Have the ability to manage a caseload of students including IEPs and all other relevant paperwork.
- Lead meetings and development of IEPs, Functional Behavior Analysis, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Lead meetings and development of IEPs, Functional Behavior Analysis, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Plan, prepare, individualize and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing expectations and procedures.
- Create and coordinate student schedules with related services and general education, as appropriate.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
- Prepare required documentation on student progress.
- Participate in grade level, department, school, district and parent meetings.
- Support and prepare schedules for paraprofessionals working within the ASD program.
- Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Prepare classroom and/or learning environment for all learning opportunities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Observe and evaluate student's performance and development using formative and summative assessments.
- Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Special Education Coordinator or Asst Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services.

- BA or BS Degree
- Michigan Education Certification; SV endorsement

- Additional training and/or education
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communication including emails, letters, spreadsheets and forms. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate basic mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages and decimals; spatial aptitude to inspect length and weight of objects.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Physical Demands: Position requires sustained periods of sitting and working on computer and office equipment; standing and walking throughout buildings; frequent lifting up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds; listening, speaking clearly and visual acuity; frequent repetitive action on a keyboard.
