ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Partner with HR to support recruiting, interviewing, selection, onboarding and training of controls engineers.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Communicate project priorities, quality standards, and individual responsibilities to the controls engineering team.
- Lead controls and robot engineering initiatives; assign and monitor team workload, utilization, and productivity.
- Oversee the design and development of control systems for automation projects.
- Ensure control systems meet project requirements and comply with industry standards.
- Review control system designs, schematics, programs, safety layouts/calculations, and documentation.
- Provide technical guidance and expertise to the controls engineering team.
- Troubleshoot complex control system issues and assist in developing effective solutions.
- Perform direct controls work and help develop technology, processes, and standards.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in automation and control technologies.
- Manage and coordinate automation projects, including monitoring progress, timelines, budgets, and resources.
- Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, sales engineers, and project managers.
- Communicate project status and technical details to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Establish and enforce quality control standards for control system designs and programs.
- Implement testing and validation procedures to ensure reliable and efficient systems.
- Understand and implement standards for complex and custom procedures and processes.
- Support the review of control systems for compliance with applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Assist in obtaining necessary certifications or approvals for projects.
- Implement change management strategies to support program objectives and ensure changes are communicated and executed smoothly.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field (Relevant experience in a technical management role will also be considered)
- 5+ years of proven experience in automation controls engineering, with a strong background in designing and implementing control systems.
- Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring less experienced engineers, or demonstrating readiness to move into formal people management responsibilities.
- In-depth knowledge of automation technologies, PLCs, HMIs, motion control, Safety devices, machine vision, specialized solutions and mixed control system programming methods.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage budgets and timelines.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong team and delegation skills.
- This role may require occasional travel.
