POSITION:
Director of Information Technology
GENERAL DUTIES:
Serves as the strategic leader for the town's business and school district's educational and administrative technology operations. This role is responsible for architecting, implementing and managing a secure, robust digital platform that provides the technology needed to empower their staff, enhance student learning and optimize district-wide operations.
REPORTS TO:
Superintendent of Schools for school-related matters & Town Manager for Town-related matters
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology or equivalent (Master's Degree preferred)
Professional experience in a technology leadership role, with a strong preference for prior experience in a K-12 educational environment and/or municipal government
Administrative and technical experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Windows 2016 and above, VMWare ESXi, Enterprise Networking and Cybersecurity Posture
Experience with policy development, budgeting and Grant Identification and writing
Deep understanding of data privacy laws, instructional technology trends, and modern AI tools in education and municipality
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership and Vision:
Technology Planning:
Leads short-range and long-range technology planning to ensure systems align with town and district goals; recommends and develops plans for systems development and operations, hardware and software purchases, budgets and staffing
Policy Development:
Creates and enforces policies regarding digital citizenship, acceptable use, cybersecurity, and data privacy (e.g., CIPA, FERPA and CJIS compliance); develops, implements, and monitors information systems policies and controls to ensure data accuracy, security, and legal and regulatory compliance
Vendor Management:
Negotiates and contracts with consultants, technical personnel, and vendors for services and products
Technology Infrastructure and Security:
System Management:
Oversees the design, installation, and maintenance of the town and district's Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), servers, and wireless connectivity
Cybersecurity:
Implements and monitors data security protocols, firewalls, and disaster recovery and contingency backup plans
Hardware and Software Lifecycle:
Manages the deployment, repair, and replacement cycles for staff/student devices; consults with management to analyze computer system needs for school and town administrative operations, determines the scope and priorities of projects, and discusses system capacity and equipment acquisitions
Financial Management System:
Manages the Financial Management System and ensures system is available and secure for all end users; systems provide access to work flows required for business function
Manages all technical aspects of the town and district's special projects
Manages network scheduling, backup, storage, and retrieval functions
Manages physical inventory and tracking
Manages ticketing and Help Desk
Creation and management of user accounts
Assist and coordinate technology roll-outs
Assist, coordinate and oversee software implementation
Reviews reports of computer and peripheral equipment production, malfunction, and maintenance to determine costs and impact, and addresses problems
Develops, maintains, and tests disaster recovery plans
Coordinates technology needs for Town and School televised meetings
Coordinates with Vendors and other Town Departments
Manages all phone systems, voice mail system, PA systems, clock systems, security cameras and door access control
Coordinates and manages technology used by Public Safety
Coordinate and communicate with South Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center for Public Safety purposes
Instructional Technology and Integration:
Curriculum Support:
Collaborates with the curriculum director on instructional technology to integrate digital tools into teaching and learning
Professional Development:
Designs and oversees Professional Development programs to help educators effectively utilize educational software and hardware; coordinates and manages professional development for the town's staff as it relates to day-to-day business functionality
Student Data Systems:
Manages Student Information Systems (SIS) and ensure digital platforms for standardized testing function smoothly
Operations and Budgeting:
Budget Administration:
Prepares and manages the annual technology budget for town and school district including capital planning
Grant Funding:
Researches and prepares grant proposals to secure supplemental funding for technology projects for both town and school district
Team Supervision and Management:
Recruits, trains, and supervises in-house and contracted IT staff, including network administrators, data analysts, and school and town-level support technicians

SALARY: $110,000, commensurate with experience
