Job Description

The Facilities and Gallery Technician is a hands‑on role focused on the practical maintenance, presentation and day‑to‑day care of The Art House's (TAH) spaces. You will play a key role in ensuring TAH remains a safe, welcoming and well‑maintained environment for artists, studio holders, visitors and staff.

Working across facilities, technical support and exhibition delivery, the role helps ensure the smooth operation of TAH’s diverse programme of activity. The role is central to supporting the maintenance and presentation of TAH’s buildings, galleries, studios, and outdoor spaces. Working with and reporting to the Head of Buildings, the role combines practical maintenance responsibilities with exhibition installation support and general building upkeep.

The role helps support the needs of artists, studio holders, participants, visitors and staff, contributing to a welcoming and accessible environment for everyone who uses TAH.

Job Requirements
  • Experience in facilities maintenance, building services or a similar practical role.
  • Enjoys practical problem‑solving and finding effective solutions to day‑to‑day operational issues / DIY, repair and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements in a workplace environment.
  • Ability to safely move and handle equipment, materials and artworks.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Attention to detail.
  • A supportive and compassionate attitude to working with others.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the changing operational needs of the organisation.
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure with good time management.
  • Proactive approach to work and in working with others.
  • A commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for diverse communities.
  • An understanding of, or interest in, the role of visual arts organisations in supporting artists and communities.
Job Responsibilities

Key responsibilities cover areas from facilities and building maintenance to gallery and exhibition support, health and safety, security and other general duties. We welcome applicants with experience gained through building maintenance, facilities, construction, carpentry, workshop environments, technical theatre, gallery installation or similar practical fields.
