About Our Atascocita Location (Harris County)

Gateway’s largest facility, Atascocita is a residential correctional center focused solely on substance use treatment for court‑ordered clients. With 12 buildings and nearly 500 clients, the facility provides a structured, secure environment without armed guards. Staff work collaboratively within a team of 170, including counselors, probation officers, and support staff. The location is undergoing major renovations to become a state‑of‑the‑art treatment center, fostering a supportive culture with team‑building activities, recognition programs, and a mission‑driven focus on recovery and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessment of clients’ medical needs, confer with clinical team members to develop care plans, and implement plans and case management to address identified needs.
  • Perform triage, and routine or complex treatments.
  • Serve as a member of the treatment team by reporting client observations and evaluations of medical problems.
  • Administer prescribed medications.
  • Conduct educational classes and seminars for clients and staff concerning health, medical issues, infection control, and related topics.
  • Maintain required client charts, documents, and records related to assessment, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Assist physicians in conducting examinations and treatments.
Job Requirements
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing
  • Two years of related experience in a social service environment; concurrent experience with a relevant client population preferred.
  • Current State license as a Vocational Nurse
  • Working knowledge of the principles of physical growth and development and psychosocial development to assess and interpret client data and identify individual needs, providing health‑related care appropriate to the developmental stage and client population.
  • Ability to manage client health care activities and work independently to develop and implement appropriate responses to identified medical needs.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate medical needs, implement and document nursing care plans, and develop solutions to difficult problems concerning clients’ mental or physical well‑being.
  • Strong communication skills to obtain assessment information, instruct clients, elicit their cooperation in managing their care, conduct educational classes, and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and health care professionals.
Physical Requirements
  • Normal or corrected vision and some color vision, necessary to read thermometers, blood pressure gauges, dipstick analysis results, etc.; and to see and evaluate presented symptoms and injuries (critical).
  • Communication abilities necessary to gather and exchange information with clients and staff in person or by telephone, provide care instructions, and schedule appointments (critical).
  • Proofreading and checking documents for accuracy, and reading reports, on a regular basis (critical).
  • Ability to respond to telephone, pages, and intercoms (critical).
