UT Physicians is seeking a full-time Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Gastroenterology team at the Northeast clinic. The role involves delivering exceptional care to patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic conditions under the direction of a physician in a clinic or hospital setting. The position offers a Monday‑Friday schedule.

Position Summary

Provides advanced nursing care to patients with complex acute, critical, and/or chronic health conditions in one or more specialized areas under the direction of a physician.

Position Key Accountabilities
  • Conduct complex, standardized patient care procedures normally performed by a physician, within the scope of RN/APRN practice.
  • Perform independent and physician‑supervised rounding on the unit.
  • Conduct patient evaluations and assessments, provide appropriate treatment, and monitor and order medications.
  • Coordinate, direct, and implement the patient’s plan of care.
  • Assist in collecting patient histories, screening for comorbidities, and providing preventive health guidance.
  • Perform physical examinations and episodic or problem‑oriented care under physician supervision.
  • Order and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests.
  • Monitor treatment programs and report pertinent medical information to physicians.
  • Facilitate patient education on medical processes, medications, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Assist physicians in therapeutic decision‑making.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare charts for physician review and signature.
  • Prepare and care for supplies and equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Operate within the scope of practice prescribed by licensure and certification.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills
  • Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing required.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse — Nurse Practitioner (APRN‑NP) licensure by Texas Board of Nursing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association required.
  • Clinical specialty certification (excluding FNP unless paired with a post‑masters specialty certification).
Minimum Education

Master’s Degree in Nursing as NP or Master’s in Nursing with completion of a post‑masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

Minimum Experience

Previous experience in the area of clinical focus preferred.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive

This position is security‑sensitive pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. The holder must be able to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2).
