About Our Atascocita Location (Harris County)Gateway’s largest facility, Atascocita is a residential correctional center focused solely on substance use treatment for court‑ordered clients. With 12 buildings and nearly 500 clients, the facility provides a structured, secure environment without armed guards. Staff work collaboratively in a team of 170, including counselors, probation officers, and support staff. The location is undergoing major renovations to become a state‑of‑the‑art treatment center, and we foster a supportive culture with team‑building activities, recognition programs, and a strong mission‑driven focus on recovery and rehabilitation.

- Job Summary
Assists Nursing Manager with supervision of staff engaged in delivering nursing services, such as conducting comprehensive assessments, taking vitals, interviewing prospective clients, completing client admission forms, medical history, and other duties assigned by the Nursing Manager. Coordinates nursing processes and audits medical records for accuracy. Reviews medical policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. Acts as liaison with physicians, psychiatrists and other medical professionals to ensure appropriate care.
Responsible for the management of medical emergencies on campus and the supervision of the nursing staff outside of normal work hours.
- Interviews, hires, and oversees the training and development of staff. Schedules, assigns work to, evaluates the performance of and, when necessary, applies appropriate discipline to staff. Ensures compliance with established personnel policies and achievement of objectives for professional growth and development of staff. Assists Nurse Manager in reviewing staff attendance, PTO, and time approval to develop shift schedules for nursing staff to ensure effective coverage for the facility.
- Documents and charts client assessment data, medical needs scheduled appointments, treatment plan, and so forth; transcribes physician orders. Audits medical charts to review comprehensive assessments to ensure accuracy of diagnosis and appropriateness of care. Audits medical records to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance. Identifies and resolves discrepancies.
- Assists medical consultants by setting up room and supplies for scheduled procedure, explaining procedure to clients and eliciting their cooperation, passing instruments and supplies, accepting and labeling specimens. Also reports client observations, evaluations of medical problems and potential barriers to achieving functional state of health to support recovery.
- Serves as professional resource to nursing staff in evaluating unusually complex cases and devising appropriate treatment responses. Responsible for resolving management problems such interdepartmental barriers to delivery of care utilizing appropriate resources.
- Assists Nurse Manager in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to medical services. Interprets and enforces Gateway’s overall objectives, as well as funding agencies policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
