Unless specifically stated otherwise, this role is “On‑Site” at the location detailed in the job post. Custom Truck One Source (CTOS) – 18725 McKay Drive, Humble, TX 77338. 30+ year industry leader with 40+ locations, 2,500+ employees, and a 10,000+ unit fleet supporting utility, telecom, rail, and construction industries.

We are hiring a Field Service Mechanic. CTOS supplies a fully equipped utility truck, including a crane, welder, and compressor. Qualified candidates must have tools, a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and be willing to work overtime and travel as needed.

Summary

Primary responsibility is to perform vehicle troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance work on chassis and track‑mounted aerials, digger derricks, cranes, high rail, and other equipment, in accordance with dealer and factory standards, in the field.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Reports to Service Manager and receives issue briefings and supporting information.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and repair orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Performs work as outlined in work instructions set by Service Manager; efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with CTOS standards.
  • Diagnosis and repair LMI Diagnostics (Load Moment Indicator) and CAN bus (Controller Area Network).
  • Experience troubleshooting and repair of utility trucks & equipment including electrical and hydraulics.
  • Inspects and services vehicles; makes repairs and adjustments both at service center and in the field.
  • Verifies work performed and road‑tests vehicles as necessary.
  • Prepares inspection reports and repair orders, recording service time and parts costs accurately.
  • Tags all warranty and core parts for return.
  • Advises management immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Attends CTOS safety training and follows all safety requirements.
  • Attends CTOS and factory‑sponsored training classes.
  • Understands and follows federal, state, and local regulations such as those governing disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Communicates easily with customers and internal departments to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
  • Shows flexibility to travel beyond coverage area, based on business need.
  • Works closely with Service Manager to grow and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Performs additional duties or responsibilities as designated by Service Manager.
Preferred Skills
  • Electrical, schematic/blueprints, hydraulic, welding, and related experience.
  • Experience with Quick Serve, DTNA, or related diagnostic software.
  • DOT, ANSI, and dielectric testing desired.
Additional Qualifications / Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five years of related experience (Shop Tech and Field Tech).
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license (CDL Class B preferred).
  • Must have own tools.
  • Proficient in documentation using software, meeting deadlines and schedules.
Mental/Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in outside weather conditions, including wet, humid, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Noise level usually moderate to loud.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, punctual attendance.
  • Physical capability for lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort with heights and manual labor.
  • Manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment.
