Job DescriptionPerforms paraprofessional accounting work processing accounts payable, invoices, purchase orders, preparing and maintaining financial records and reports, and related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Finance Director.
Essential Duties of the PositionThe following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project.
- Coordinates with assigned departments to properly identify and code operating and capital project expenditures.
- Track purchase orders against expenditure and budgetary limits.
- Receives and processes invoices and purchase cards for payment.
- Check and review invoices for correct address, date, and prior payment; enters tax code for accounts and tax purposes.
- Create and enter requisitions in financial system.
- Create invoices for damages to property and pole attachments for the Electric Department.
- Coordinates procurement contracts with assigned departments.
- Sets up and maintains filing systems, files items in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Uses advanced techniques with electronic spreadsheets, word processing and other database computer applications.
- Daily travels may include trips to post office, bank and operations center.
- Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
Education and Experience
Knowledge of accounts payable policies, practices and procedures; knowledge of principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting; ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions;
Ability to establish and follow work procedures; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; ability to prepare complete and accurate reports from various accounting data; thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors and the general public.
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in accounting, or related field and three years of experience in accounting with emphasis in accounts payable. Or a combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills to complete the essential functions and job responsibilities of this position. Working knowledge of Excel required.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Supplemental InformationThis position's physical requirements involve sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: fingering, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and/or visual acuity.
Work has no exposure to environmental conditions. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with computer printers, light traffic).
