About this Role

Northstar Energy Services is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support day‑to‑day accounting and office operations. This role is ideal for a well‑rounded accounting professional who is detail‑oriented, dependable, and interested in growing with the business.

The Accounting Specialist will support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, reporting, and general office administration. This position will work closely with the Business Operations Manager to help maintain accurate financial records, support internal processes, and assist with reporting needs. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on accounting experience in a small to mid‑size business environment and the ability to take on additional office services responsibilities as the company continues to grow.

What

You’ll Do
  • Support daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, data entry, invoice processing, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist with month‑end accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliations, reporting, and close‑related tasks.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and help identify discrepancies, trends, or process improvement opportunities.
  • Support payroll processing by gathering, reviewing, and entering payroll‑related information accurately and timely.
  • Assist with compliance reporting, audit support, tax‑related documentation, and corporate reporting requests as needed.
  • Help document and follow accounting procedures, office processes, and internal controls to support consistency and accuracy.
  • Provide general office support and assist with ad‑hoc reporting, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Five to eight years of accounting experience with hands‑on responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Prior experience in underground utility construction, construction services, energy services, or a related industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month‑end close support, reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Adobe, and other basic office tools; advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, communication skills, and ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Self‑starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and support multiple business needs in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to support audits, tax compliance, multi‑site business needs, budgeting, forecasting, and special projects as needed.
