Mechanical Engineer, PEPosition Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of commercial HVAC systems while helping drive the strategic growth and direction of our mechanical department. This role is pivotal in ensuring technical excellence, client satisfaction, and strong mentorship within a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

+ Lead mechanical engineering efforts across a variety of commercial projects, including healthcare, higher education, office, laboratory, and mixed‑use facilities.

+ Perform HVAC load calculations, system sizing, and develop system concepts and detailed sequences of operation.

+ Design complete air‑side and hydronic HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment layouts.

+ Prepare full construction document packages-drawings, specifications, details, and schedules.

+ Conduct site visits, perform field verifications, respond to RFIs, and review submittals.

+ Collaborate closely with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection teams to ensure coordinated, high‑quality designs.

+ Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing redlines, technical direction, and workflow structure.

+ Help develop internal design standards, templates, and best‑practice processes.

+ Work with project managers on scope development, scheduling, fee proposals, and milestone planning.

+ Interface directly with clients, present technical solutions, and lead mechanical discipline discussions.

+ Forecast staffing needs and ensure resource alignment with project demands.

+ Support proposal development and participate in interviews as needed.

Essential Skills & Experience

+ Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (any U.S. state).

+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.

+ 8-15 years of experience designing commercial HVAC systems.

+ Ability to independently lead a mechanical discipline within a project environment.

+ Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and standard MEP production tools;
Bluebeam experience for document review.

+ Strong knowledge of ASHRAE, IMC, IECC, and applicable HVAC/mechanical codes.

+ Excellent communication skills and experience working within multidisciplinary teams.

+ Demonstrated ability to mentor early‑career engineers.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+

Experience with Plumbing and/or Fire Protection system design preferred.

+ Familiarity with HVAC modeling tools like TRACE 3D Plus or Carrier HAP.

+

Experience with specialized building types-labs, healthcare, higher education, mission‑critical, or large mixed‑use facilities.

+ LEED AP, CEM, or commissioning experience is a plus.

Work Environment

This position offers on‑site or hybrid work options, depending on project needs. Occasional travel may be required for site visits, field verification, and client meetings. This is a Permanent position based out of Huntersville, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
