- On-site installation, commissioning & startup
- Install and commission Bürkert valves, process actuators, manifolds, instrumentation, and control systems at pharmaceutical, biotech, food & beverage, and industrial sites.
- Perform startup checks, loop checks, system verification, and functional testing according to Bürkert procedures, customer requirements, and relevant industry standards (e.g., GMP, ASME BPE where applicable).
- Configure, parameterize, and calibrate devices (flow, pressure, level, temperature, mass flow controllers) to customer specifications on-site, including basic field adjustments and verification against reference standards.
- Document all commissioning activities and provide clear handover, test records, and customer sign-off.
- Field calibration, diagnostics & repair
- Perform routine and corrective on-site calibration of valves, sensors, transmitters, and instrumentation used in fluid control and process automation.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues in control valves, positioners, manifolds, and sensor systems, including pneumatic and electrical troubleshooting.
- Execute component-level repair and replacement (actuators, coils, electronics, seals) following Bürkert and customer quality procedures.
- Identify root cause of failures and propose corrective and preventive actions, including recommendations on maintenance intervals, spares, and design improvements.
- Interface with calibration houses and customer QA/Validation teams as needed to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Customer interaction, technical consulting & service business development
- Act as the technical face of Bürkert at customer sites, maintaining a professional, clear, and solution-focused presence in all interactions.
- Brief customers on work performed, findings, calibration results, and recommended follow-up actions, including upgrade or retrofit opportunities.
- Identify and help develop service business opportunities such as preventive maintenance programs, calibration contracts, valve audits, and modernization projects, leveraging your industry relationships and experience.
- Collaborate with sales and service management to help develop the regional service offering and support proposals and scopes of work based on field insights.
- Internal service work & service program development (Charlotte office)
- Perform bench repair, calibration, and functional testing of Bürkert equipment in the Charlotte service office, including incoming inspection and RMA processing.
- Help define service processes, documentation templates, and tools for the new service organization (work instructions, report formats, calibration workflows, spare parts lists).
- Provide feedback on service KPIs, recurring issues, and continuous improvement opportunities to the Service Manager.
- Support internal training, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of additional technicians as the team grows.
- Reporting, documentation & tools
- Complete detailed field service and calibration reports for every job and submit within agreed time frames.
- Maintain accurate records of instruments, references, and calibration results in the chosen service and calibration tools.
- Manage your own tools, test equipment, and spare parts inventory, ensuring readiness and valid calibration status of your reference devices.
- Travel & scheduling
- Travel to customer sites nationwide as required, including short-notice callouts for priority pharmaceutical and industrial accounts.
- Coordinate scheduling with the service coordinator to minimize customer downtime and align with production windows.
- Typical travel expectation: up to 60%, with the remainder spent in the Charlotte office on internal service work, repair activity, and service program development.
- 5+ years of experience in field service, instrumentation service, or a hands-on maintenance/engineering role in process industries (pharma, biotech, chemical, food & beverage, or similar).
- Proven experience with on-site installation, commissioning, and repair of industrial valves, instrumentation, or automation equipment.
