Artificial Intelligence Research Scientist

The AI Group at the Joe Gibbs Human Performance Institute (JGHPI) is offering a full-time position dedicated to tackling projects for our race team. Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) oversees a wide range of processes across multiple disciplines, all of which converge on race day performance. Many of these processes require, or can be enhanced by, the application of AI-driven modeling techniques.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in deep learning and hands‑on experience with modern neural network architectures, including graph neural networks and transformers.

JGHPI is at the forefront of biomechanical engineering research, striving to unravel the complexities of human movement. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to pioneering advanced data acquisition systems and leveraging machine learning, with a heavy focus on deep learning specifically, and other innovative technologies to enhance our understanding of human performance.

• Hybrid (within Charlotte/Huntersville area)
• Full-time: 40 hours per week

• Collaborate with different JGR departments on interdisciplinary projects.
• Work directly with the JGR analytics group for data pipelining and engineering.
• Apply data analytics to interpret complex datasets and derive actionable insights.
• Participate in the entire research cycle from problem formulation to experimental design and analysis.
• Assist in the preparation and delivery of reports and presentations to communicate findings.

• MSc or PhD (at least expected by May 2026) in mathematics or computer science or a related field
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Familiarity with various neural network architectures (LSTM, CNN, GNN, transformers, etc.)
• Coding experience with PyTorch and/or PyTorch Geometric

• Practical experience with a containerization platform (e.g. Docker)
• Experience with AWS Sagemaker for data processing and model training
• Familiarity with Git best practices
• Proactive and independent work ethic within a professional environment
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting
