.CalWORKs Student Assistant - Golden West College - 2026​/2027 Academic Year

Student Assistants perform duties ranging from unskilled to skilled and/or specialized across a variety of positions within the college or district site. Assignments are designed to accommodate students’ class schedules and are typically flexible, providing practical experience while maintaining academic commitments.

• Representative duties: Specific job duties are defined by the appropriate Division and/or Department. Considerable training may occur on the job.
• Student Assistant I – Entry level/Semi‑skilled: Work is under immediate supervision with standardized, routine tasks. Tasks may involve the use of special equipment and software, following established procedures.
• Student Assistant II – Intermediate/Advanced: Work is under general supervision. Tasks are less routine and may involve sophisticated data systems and confidential information, requiring moderate independent judgment. Minimum one year of prior experience required.
• Student Assistant III – Specialist/Lead: Work is under general supervision. Role requires broad skills and comprehensive judgment. Individuals at this level may direct lower‑level assistants. Minimum two years of prior experience required.

Education and Experience

• Student Assistant I: Little or no prior experience or education required.
• Student Assistant II: Some previous knowledge, experience, or education required.
• Student Assistant III: Prior experience, education, or specialized skills required.

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to perform assigned job functions.
• Limited independent judgment and decision‑making appropriate to the assistant level.
• Ability to balance work responsibilities with academic workload.

Students must be enrolled in classes for the current semester and have a federal work‑study award through the financial aid office to be eligible.

• Regular attendance is essential; failure to meet attendance requirements may lead to termination.
• Student Assistants are deemed mandated reporters under applicable state law and must comply with district policies.
• Work environment is a campus setting with standard office and facility activity.
• Physical demands include repetitive tasks, occasional lifting of weights up to 20 pounds, and extended standing or sitting.
