The position has two primary responsibilities: developing and overseeing a dynamic noncredit program at Golden West College (GWC) and coordinating with the District on grant reporting and requirements. The role involves determining course offerings with instructional areas, identifying faculty, and managing multiple aspects of noncredit/AEP and WIOA at GWC related to instruction and student services. The position requires extensive knowledge of noncredit adult education and AEP/WIOA grant requirements, grant management, instructional program development and implementation, enrollment management, student services, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
The role supports District and Coast Adult Education Consortium requirements and works as part of the district-wide AEP team.
Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates adult education, noncredit, and related programs that meet program requirements. Establishes program goals and curriculum to serve targeted adult learner populations by working with a consortium of regional providers of adult education services.
Distinguishing Career FeaturesThe Director, Adult Education Program, is a mid-management position reporting to campus Vice Presidents of Instruction and, at the District level, to the Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Technology. The Director is accountable for developing, sustaining, and expanding all Adult Education and noncredit programs including career technical education, apprenticeship, high school diploma and GED, English language learning, citizenship, adults with disabilities, and older adults.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement plans for the Coast Adult Education Consortium to provide a comprehensive program by integrating member programs and services and facilitating transitions into postsecondary education and the workforce. Develop annual plans for the AEP and ensure alignment with district plans and grant requirements. Coordinate with other Adult Education Directors and District staff on grant activities and reports. Lead ongoing planning and implementation to expand programs and services.
Regularly attend Coast Adult Education Consortium meetings. - Set standards of service delivery, goals, and performance measures. Supervise and develop program staff to achieve established goals and provide high-quality service.
- Provide leadership for development and implementation of career preparation and college readiness noncredit courses and oversee adult education noncredit instructional programs.
- Develop class schedules and site selection to maximize student access. In collaboration with administrators, assign personnel, monitor enrollment and class size, and determine continuation or cancellation of classes based on enrollment and cost considerations. Recommend course offerings based on community needs and instructor availability.
- Lead and participate in administrative and staff meetings; serve on college and District committees and projects; coordinate programs with District and college personnel.
