Summary

Organizes and coordinates operations and professional and administrative support for the daily operations of the Training Center. Participates in planning for and provides logistics and training support to the development and implementation of special Criminal Justice Training Center (CJTC) projects and programs.

Distinguishing Career Features

The Criminal Justice Training Center Coordinator is a first-line working supervisory position responsible for project/program research, development and coordination of activities and logistics support for the daily operation and management of CJTC programs that include and are not limited to, the Associates Degree, Basic Police Academies, Advanced Officer and CPT training, and the Leadership and Ethics Institute. The Coordinator will handle the logistics of moving courses between classroom and field environments, blending conceptual, tactical, and physical instructional content.

These courses are, and need to be continually reviewed, for acceptance and certification by the California Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties may vary among departments, divisions and jobs. Incumbents typically perform a substantial portion or all of the following kinds of duties, as assigned:

  • Organizes and supervises staff that is engaged in supporting the courses, programs, and logistics involved in police training including classrooms and field training simulations.
  • Assists the Director in reviewing and ensuring all programs and courses are compliant with POST training mandates and contractual obligations. Analyzes and aligns laws and regulations to develop defensible course and training regiments.
  • Works with criminal justice system agencies to advance the College's position within the criminal justice community. Participates and may chair committees designed to identify and resolve challenging program and campus opportunities and issues.
  • Oversees and facilitates the development of instructional schedules for faculty and presenters for all special courses, special advanced level programs, and regular semester and distance learning classes.
  • Conducts advanced officer and continuing professional education training programs following approved texts, safety protocols, and manuals.
