Shop Welder - Structural Steel Fabrication Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Shop Welder to join our structural steel fabrication team. This role requires proficiency in reading blueprints, measuring and fitting structural components, and fabricating steel assemblies including stairs, pipe railing, columns, and beams. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, accurate, and confident working with Miller welding equipment and industrial gases.

• Read and interpret structural steel blueprints and shop drawings
• Measure, fit, weld, and cut steel components with precision
• Fabricate:
  • Structural steel columns and beams
  • Steel stairs and landings
  • Pipe and tube railing systems
• Operate Miller welding equipment (MIG, Flux Core, Stick as required)
• Work safely and effectively with industrial welding gases
• Accurately lay out and jig materials for fabrication
• Operate shop equipment including:
  • Band saws
  • Ironworker/punch machine (hole punching)
  • Grinders and cutting tools
• Safely operate a forklift to move steel materials and assemblies within the shop
• Maintain quality standards and dimensional accuracy
• Ensure welds meet structural and safety requirements
• Keep work area organized and comply with shop safety protocols

• Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints and fabrication drawings
• Strong measuring and layout skills
• Ability to fit structural components independently
• Experience welding structural steel (stairs, beams, columns, railing)
• Familiarity with welding gases and proper regulator setup
• Experience operating Miller welding machines
• Skilled in jigging, layout, cutting, and hole punching
• Must be able to safely operate a forklift
• Ability to maintain tight tolerances and fabricate accurately
• Knowledge of shop safety standards
• Must be punctual, reliable and proficient in fabrication of steel and misc. metals
