Part‑Time/Seasonal Traffic Control Officer
Driving and parking enforcement with the Huntington Beach Police Department. The position may be part‑time year‑round or full‑time during the summer months (May‑September), depending on department needs.
Responsibilities- Enforce parking regulations set forth by the California Vehicle Code and City municipal ordinances to maintain a steady flow of traffic.
- Issue parking tickets with a hand‑held computer and handle public inquiries, complaints, and ordinance infractions.
- Assist sworn police officers with traffic control during collisions, crime scenes, and other city events.
- Identify abandoned vehicles, vehicles with multiple citations, expired registration, and coordinate towing.
- Follow street sweepers and issue citations as required.
- Assist in traffic control incidents by lifting, carrying, and placing traffic cones and signs.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Parking/Traffic Control Supervisor.
- Knowledge: City streets and map directions; standard business software; laws governing vehicular parking; basic traffic safety practices.
- Ability: Drive assigned vehicle safely; use Citation Writers, KDT, police radios, flares, personal computer; communicate effectively with the public and department staff; provide quality customer service; create, prioritize, and maintain work schedules.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Three years of public‑contact experience. Experience with enforcement duties and significant public contact is highly desirable.
- Certifications / License: Valid California Class C driver license with an acceptable driving record at the time of hire and throughout employment.
- Available to work all assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation.
- Employees regularly assigned or required to drive a city or personal vehicle are required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.
- All Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of a disaster or emergency.
