Under general direction, the Controls Service Technician 5 is responsible for the service and repair, design, configuration, and operation of complete HVAC building control systems and other low-voltage control sub-systems. This role is accountable for quality, timeliness, and efficiency while developing complex software programs, commissioning systems, and solving operational issues. You will also prepare detailed information and submittals that support customer, consultant, sales, service, and subcontractor understanding of system design and operation.

Johnson Controls is looking for a hands‑on field professional to join a collaborative team focused on delivering purposeful solutions that help protect people and property. In this role, you will work at customer sites to install, program, configure, commission, and service fire alarm and fire suppression systems, including Simplex, Fike, Kidde, Inergen, Sapphire, FM-200, and CO2.

This position is responsible for supporting fire alarm and fire suppression projects from installation through commissioning and service. You will coordinate with project managers, customers, and other trades to keep work moving safely, on schedule, and in line with customer expectations.

• Install, program, configure, commission, and service fire alarm and fire suppression systems at customer sites.
• Execute projects on time and within allocated installation hours.
• Work with the project manager to resolve discrepancies and coordination issues that affect installation activities.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software and system programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Coordinate installation activities with other trades to optimize installation time and maintain site progress.
• Attend required site meetings and support project execution with clear communication.
• Train customers on system operation, conduct simulations, and respond to functional questions.
• Provide excellent customer service through consistent communication with district staff and customers.
• Complete project documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Follow OSHA and Simplex Grinnell safety policies and procedures at all times.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation and perform other duties as assigned.

• Stay close to the work by identifying issues early, coordinating directly with the project manager, and removing obstacles that slow down site progress.
