Surgical Technology Instructor

Position Summary

The Surgical Technology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to students enrolled in our Surgical Technology Associate Degree program. This role prepares students to function competently and safely as entry-level surgical technologists by integrating theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and professional standards in alignment with accreditation and industry requirements.

Instruction is delivered both online (theory) via Zoom and in-person in the skills lab at one or all of our three campuses (Huntington Park, Van Nuys, Pomona). There is flexibility with this position depending on candidate location, schedule requirements, and preferences:

• Full time and part time options are available
• Online instruction only, in-person instruction only, or both are available

Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

• Develop and deliver engaging lectures, laboratory demonstrations, and simulation-based instruction.
• Teach core content including surgical procedures, instrumentation, aseptic technique, sterilization, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and patient safety.
• Integrate current standards from organizations such as the Association of Surgical Technologists and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
• Maintain and update course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials.

Student Support & Assessment

• Assess student progress through written exams, practical evaluations, and competency check-offs.
• Provide academic advising, tutoring, and remediation as needed.
• Maintain accurate student records and documentation in compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.

Program & Institutional Support

• Participate in program review, curriculum development, and accreditation processes.
• Attend faculty meetings, professional development activities, and institutional committees.
• Assist with student recruitment, retention initiatives, and program outreach.
• Ensure laboratory equipment, supplies, and simulation tools are maintained and compliant with safety standards.

• Associate degree in Surgical Technology (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of recent experience as a surgical technologist in an operating room setting.
• Knowledge of current surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile processing standards.
• Strong communication, organizational, and instructional skills.

• Previous teaching or clinical instruction experience in a postsecondary or healthcare training setting.
• Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and simulation technology.
