Visiting Assistant Professor of English

Huntington University has an opening for a part time Visiting Professor of English.

The Huntington University Department of English seeks candidates for a part-time faculty position in Creative Writing. While the candidate's preferred genre is open, successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to provide instruction in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. The candidate will provide in-person classroom instruction.

The candidate will teach 18 credit hours per academic year. This will typically include one or two Freshman level courses (EN141 Foundations of Writing and Literature) and one or two upper division creative writing courses per semester (determined by qualifications and in consultation with the department head).

QUALIFICATIONS

* Education:

MFA in Creative Writing required, with an ability to teach a broad range of writing courses for each genre.

* Preference will be given to those who demonstrates an ability to teach the history of the English language with an emphasis on modern grammar.

* The successful candidate will demonstrate interpersonal communication skills and exceptional teaching ability.

* Candidates must have a strong personal Christian commitment and faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to serve others

* Must be committed to the mission of Huntington University as a comprehensive Christian College dedicated to educating men and women to impact our world for Christ

* Demonstrated understanding of Christian higher education, preferred

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

* Teach three classes (each three credits) per semester (9 hours). Classes will typically include two or three Core classes (EN141 Foundations of Writing and Literature) and one or two upper-level writing courses per semester.

* Participate in weekly department and faculty meetings

* Assist with departmental assessment

* Seek opportunities for professional growth

* Maintain scheduled office hours
