Job SummaryAssist in providing safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the school district's curriculum and extra‑curricular programs.
Employment Requirements- 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED required; advanced education desirable
- Experience working with children preferable
- Exhibit self‑control and positive attitude when dealing with students
- Good written and verbal communication skills

EssentialJob Duties
- Work as a team with the driver in all duties requested
- Report daily during the regular school session ready to drive any route
- Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus; assist (not lift) student from wheelchair to seat
- Maintain a safe environment on the bus including keeping the aisles clear, keeping students reasonably quiet, making sure students remain in their seats while bus is in motion, and ensuring that students are not hurting themselves or others around them
- Discipline the students verbally by explaining the rules of safety
- Report discipline problems to the proper personnel
- Assist in securing lap belts, harnesses and car seats
- Assist driver with wheelchair lift and tie‑downs
- Monitor students, letting the driver know if there is an emergency, such as choking, seizures, bleeding, etc.
- Attend all mandatory meetings, trainings, and in‑service
- Assist students to and from classrooms and school buildings as needed
- Meet all aspects of the Classified Employee Handbook and the Transportation Handbook
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
- Plan, organize, and schedule priorities
- Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems
- Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters
- Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Follow instructions and take direction
- Sitting/standing – constantly
- Stopping/kneeling/crouching – frequently
- Hearing and speaking clearly – constantly
- Lifting (up to 50 lbs.) – frequently
- Physical requirements include the possession and full normal use of both hands, both feet, both legs, both eyes and both ears. Walk freely up and down the bus aisle; reach and bend; assist a small child; assist students in an emergency evacuation; exit bus via emergency exits if necessary.
