The Assistant Controller will support the financial and accounting operations and is responsible for helping maintain accurate financial records, supporting cost accounting functions, and contributing to financial forecasting and reporting in a high-volume, fast-paced production environment.
Essential Job Functions- Support the Controller in managing the organization's accounting and financial operations, with a strong focus on overseeing the Accounts Payable (AP) function and ensuring seamless collaboration with Shared Services.
- Support daily accounting and finance functions within the plant, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and financial controls.
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports, including P&L statements, forecasts, and budgets.
- Approve expenses, expense reports, and appropriation requests in accordance with plant and corporate guidelines.
- Maintain and update standard cost information for each manufactured and sold product, including analysis of work centers, machine rates, and routings.
- Conduct audits of bills of material (BOMs), routing, and standard cost elements to ensure cost accuracy.
- Assist in calculating machine overhead and labor rates and support implementation of cost accounting best practices.
- Participate in physical inventories and cycle counts; help analyze inventory variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Contribute to the development, improvement, and implementation of plant accounting and finance procedures and internal controls.
- Collaborate with operational teams to provide financial insight and support data-driven decision-making.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in plant accounting or financial analysis, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry.
- Prior experience with cost accounting in a high-speed manufacturing environment is required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with ERP systems preferred (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Capable of handling multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic manufacturing setting.
- Must be able to work in a plant environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, moving equipment, and temperature extremes.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business, and/or equivalent experience.
