Custodian - 2nd Shift (Roanoke Elementary School)
Position Title: Custodian
Terms of Employment: 12 Month Position
Evaluated By: Head Custodian
Job Summary: Maintain a clean and organized school environment for the students and employees of the Huntington County Community School Corporation.
Employment Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six months experience in the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities
Essential
Job Duties:
- Clean restrooms, locker rooms, and showers
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment in preparing multipurpose rooms or classrooms for special events or meetings
- Perform emergency clean-up service resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling or illness
- Perform minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs
- Lock and unlock gates and doors and set security systems
- Mow grass and trim lawns
- Pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walk areas, and the areas adjacent to the school facilities
- Sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to the school facilities, including snow removal
- Assist in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment
- Take oral and written directions while working productively with fellow workers
- Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and seal floors
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, including trash barrels
- Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork, and clean chalkboards
- Vacuum rugs and carpets
- Dust, wash, and polish furniture/woodwork
- Replace light bulbs, lighting tubes and electrical ballasts
- Clean window coverings, such as drapes and blinds
Assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism.
- Work safely
- Perform other work and duties as assigned by the Head Custodian
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining a variety of surfaces, equipment and furniture
- Meets all aspects of the Classified Employee Handbook
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Efficiently use cleaning materials, supplies and equipment
- Work assigned overtime
