Manufacturing The Part-Time Deburrer supports PHD’s manufacturing operations by ensuring machined parts are properly deburred, cleaned, finished, and prepared for the next stage of production or shipment. This position uses hand tools and shop equipment to remove burrs, sharp edges, chips, and excess material from steel, aluminum, plastic, and other machined components while protecting critical part features and finished surfaces.

Through careful inspection, consistent workmanship, and attention to safety and quality, the Part-Time Deburrer helps PHD deliver reliable automation products that meet customer specifications. This role may also assist with packaging, basic assembly, inventory organization, and other production needs as assigned.

Functions
  • Deburr machined parts using approved hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, chips, and excess material without damaging part surfaces, threads, features, or dimensions.
  • Perform finishing operations such as filing, sanding, scraping, brushing, grinding, and vibratory finishing.
  • Clean parts and remove machining chips, oil, coolant, and other residue as required.
  • Visually inspect completed parts for incomplete deburring, surface damage, and other apparent defects.
  • Follow work instructions, blueprints, sample parts, and established quality requirements.
  • Use basic measuring and inspection tools as trained to verify part features when required.
  • Identify and report damaged, questionable, or nonconforming parts to the appropriate personnel.
  • Count, sort, identify, and organize completed parts.
  • Pack and prepare parts for inventory, assembly, outside processing, or shipment.
  • Maintain accurate production counts and complete required paperwork or electronic entries.
  • Assist with basic assembly, material handling, inventory, and other production activities as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, quality procedures, and work instructions.
  • Communicate part status, quality concerns, and equipment or tooling needs to the Production Supervisor or designated department personnel.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Assembly, Toolroom, Maintenance, and other departments.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Previous manufacturing, deburring, finishing, inspection, assembly, or packaging experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to recognize burrs, sharp edges, surface damage, and other visible defects.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to work carefully with small or detailed parts.
  • Ability to safely use common hand tools and deburring equipment.
  • Basic math skills, including counting and working with decimals and fractions.
  • Familiarity with blueprints, work instructions, calipers, micrometers, or other basic measuring tools preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, quality work.
  • Ability to handle parts without damaging finished surfaces or critical features.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to organize assigned work and complete tasks with minimal supervision after training.
  • Ability to communicate concerns promptly, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Basic computer skills or the ability to learn required production-entry systems.
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to work an assigned part-time schedule.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, frequently use hands to handle parts and tools, and lift or move materials within established company guidelines.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment and wear required personal protective equipment.
