Position Summary:

The Prevention Coordinator plans, coordinates, delivers, monitors, and evaluates evidence-based education on substance abuse prevention, and problem gambling prevention services for schools and community partners throughout Suffolk County.

Administration:

Supervise and train prevention staff; provide onboarding, case consultation, and ongoing training in evidence-based prevention practices.

Participate in recruitment, interviewing, selection, orientation, scheduling, and performance-management activities.

Develop annual prevention work plans, service goals, implementation schedules, and quality-improvement activities with program leadership.

Ensure timely and accurate documentation of prevention activities, participant reach, fidelity, outcomes, and required OASAS, local governmental unit, funder, and agency reports.

Maintain readiness for monitoring, audits, and program reviews by keeping policies, records, approvals, training documentation, and corrective-action plans current.

Manage approved program materials, supplies, and naloxone inventory and distribution records in accordance with agency and applicable governmental requirements.

Represent the program at OASAS, county, coalition, school, and community meetings and communicate relevant guidance and action items to leadership and staff.

Build and maintain partnerships with schools, municipalities, health and human-service providers, youth- and family-serving organizations, and community coalitions.

Support community education, advocacy, policy, and environmental-change strategies consistent with approved prevention plans and agency policy.

Program Operations:

Coordinate and, as needed, deliver OASAS-approved evidence-based prevention programs, presentations, and environmental strategies in school and community settings.

Use needs-assessment findings, local data, and stakeholder input to identify priority populations, risk and protective factors, service gaps, and appropriate prevention strategies.

Monitor curriculum fidelity, dosage, participant engagement, cultural responsiveness, accessibility, and outcome measures; implement corrective actions when indicated.

Coordinate prevention education and naloxone training logistics, including outreach, scheduling, staffing, materials, attendance, and follow-up.

Serve as the primary liaison to participating schools and community sites; establish clear implementation expectations and resolve operational issues promptly.

Analyze program data and stakeholder feedback, prepare summaries for leadership and funders, and recommend adjustments that improve reach, quality, equity, and outcomes.

Maintain confidentiality and follow agency policy, ethical standards, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Other:

Provide prevention, overdose-response, and naloxone education to community members, partners and families

Maintain professional competence through required OASAS and agency training, credential renewal, supervision, and continuing education.

Prepare and deliver community presentations on emerging substance use and problem gambling trends, protective factors, prevention strategies, available supports, and referral resources.

Perform other related duties consistent with the position's purpose and operational needs.

Job Qualifications:

High School Diploma / Associates Degree. CPP/CPS or commitment to complete OASAS trainings /requirements to obtain CPP or CPS within 6 months of employment. Experience working with children and adolescents or community action work. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Ability to practice within the scope of OASAS Prevention regulations. Driving;
Driving positions require NYS License, in good standing and drivers must be 21 years of age or older. Computer skills are essential. Access to a reliable vehicle that can be used on a regular basis for work. Excellent writing skills/time management Ability to be flexible with scheduling (work evenings, possible weekends if necessary).
