Position OverviewThe Pre‑Award Grants Officer provides comprehensive research administration support across the full pre‑award lifecycle, including interpreting sponsor guidelines, developing compliant budgets, preparing administrative components, and submitting proposals through sponsor and institutional systems. The role requires strong analytical skills, clear communication, and the ability to successfully manage multiple deadlines.
Key Responsibilities- Review and interpret sponsor solicitations and funding regulations.
- Support budget development and ensure proposal compliance with federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies.
- Work directly with faculty and research staff to ensure all administrative, budgetary, and compliance‑related components of proposals meet federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies and standards.
- Provide administrative support to university faculty, staff and departmental administrators in the preparation and submission of federal, state and privately funded grant and contract proposals, ensuring high‑quality, competitive applications are submitted on time.
- Interpret FOAs/NOFOs and advise investigators on requirements and timelines.
- Interpret regulations for faculty and staff, including but not limited to Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), FAR, NIH Grants Policy Statement, NSF PAPPG.
- Prepare and submit proposals in systems such as Cayuse, eRA Commons, Research.gov, Grants.gov, and Just Grants.
- Maintain accurate Cayuse proposal records and internal routing.
- Communicate with Sponsor and support transition from pre‑award to award setup, including subaward preparation.
- Provide guidance on IRB, IACUC, COI, export control, and subrecipient determinations.
- Support faculty and staff with proposal preparation and deliver training on grants processes and systems.
- Facilitate meetings, seminars and workshops on the grant process.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree - Experience:
At least two years of experience in pre‑award and/or sponsored research/grant administration, preferably in a university setting. - Strong communication, organization and time‑management skills; ability to manage multiple projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Education:
CRA, CPRA, CFRA, or similar certification (or ability to obtain within 12–18 months). - Experience:
Preparing or processing grant/contract proposals. - Experience:
Knowledge of basic accounting principles and budget development. - Familiarity with Cayuse or similar research administration software.
