Position Title:

Graduate Assistant (Teacher – Adjunct Instructor of Record)

Employment details:
Position begins the week prior to first week of school and continues through finals week each semester. Graduate Assistants do not work during University breaks.

Hours:

20 hours per week. Full-time appointment. Tuition Waiver with Stipend.

Location:

University College – MU2076, Marshall University.

Semester:
Fall Semester.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and teach UNI 102 Strategies for Academic Success under guidance of an Academic Counselor in University College. Course meets twice per week throughout the semester and enrollment is restricted to conditionally admitted University College students on academic probation.
  • Monitor class attendance and grade assignments; schedule midterm and final course grades.
  • Conduct required one‑on‑one student meetings outside class time.
  • Monitor required study time assigned to students enrolled in the course.
  • Work with students to develop strategic plans for improving academic status.
  • Report course standing or any issues (attendance or otherwise) to students’ academic advisors.
  • Refer students to campus services (tutoring, writing center, counseling, etc.) when appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Receive students and phone calls at University College reception desk when not teaching or meeting with students.
  • Pick up mail from the mail room in Old Main.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as determined by University College staff.
Qualifications
  • Must have earned a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must currently be pursuing a Graduate degree.
  • Experience working with at‑risk students is required.
  • Preferred:
    Education experience.
