POSITION TITLE:
Aide VI – Behavioral Support Assistant Teacher, Itinerate, Countywide
LOCATION:
Brooke County Schools –Wellsburg Primary School
DESCRIPTION: Personnel who hold a High School diploma or a General Education Development certification and who have completed the requirements and experience for a behavioral support assistant teacher to be prescribed by the State Board of Education. No service personnel shall be entitled to receive the paygrade association with this classification unless he or she has applied for and been selected to fill a posted position which specifically requires the successful candidate to hold or be enrolled in and pursuing the requirements for the classification.
Reports to: Principal, designee or other assigned supervisor.
Job Goal: To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. To implement behavioral and instructional programming as outlined by a BCBA and/or Classroom Teacher; to assist staff with implementing behavior support plans and carryover of skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Specialized Training in Applied Behavior Analysis, including Discrete Trial Teaching and Positive Behavior
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Passing score on the West Virginia Aide classification competency test.
- Completion of a successful background check.
- Basic word processing skills preferred.
- Be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Possess computer skills to include competency in word processing, data management and spread sheets.
- Experience and training in challenging behavior, and crisis prevention intervention.
- Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a countywide supervisory aide/paraprofessional.
- This job is classified as requiring a medium-heavy work capacity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Adhere to all federal, state and district laws and policies.
- Collect data and maintain documentation for behavioral and instructional programs.
- Assist staff with implementing individual plans for students.
- May work with children who have physically aggressive behaviors, self-injury.
- Work with individual students or small groups of students according to programming outlined and supervised by a BCBA, teacher and the IEP in the school
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Operate and care for classroom and office equipment including electronics.
- Assist with lunch, snack and clean-up routines.
- Assist with toileting and wash-up routines of both male and female students, which include catherization, associated lifting, aspiration techniques and other special needs as required.
- Assist with dressing and undressing of both male and female students.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
- Prepare a variety of materials such as student records, reports and memos.
- Demonstrate the ability to remain and respond calmly and objectively to a variety of situations.
- Provide a variety of behavior management techniques in a crisis situation before resorting to passive restraint.
- Exhibit the physical attributes and maintain training to passively restrain both male and female students over an extended period of time.
- Completing professional development in the area of applied behavior analysis and autism
Term of employment: 200 days
Salary: In accordance with the Brooke County Service Personnel Salary Schedule.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the
Brooke County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel.
Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits
package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
