Location:

MUSOM - Marshall University School of Medicine

Salary: $24,808 – $32,350 per year (commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity)

Position Details: 37.5 hour work week, full‑time, nonexempt, FTE 0.53. The work schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and seasons of increased demand such as flu season.

General

Duties
  • Operate mechanical cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, carpet extractors, and pressure washers.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of facilities, including washing, cleaning, and disinfecting surfaces and high‑touch areas.
  • Dispose of trash, waste, and disposable materials as required.
  • Clean interior and exterior windows on a scheduled basis.
  • Clean and disinfect restroom and shower facilities daily.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors, stairwells, elevators, and related areas.
  • Dust and polish furniture and required surfaces.
  • Provide coverage to additional areas when co‑workers are absent.
  • Restock paper supplies and soap in dispensers.
  • Mix and dilute cleaning solvents, chemicals, and additives.
  • Manually or mechanically mop, strip, and refinish floor surfaces as scheduled.
  • Pressure wash exterior items campus‑wide such as entryways, sidewalks, benches, and windows.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning agents and equipment.
  • Monitor and service cleaning equipment.
  • Lock and unlock assigned building(s) and interior areas per schedule or supervisor instruction.
  • Clear sidewalk area 15 feet from exterior doors of snow, ice, leaves, and debris.
  • Move furniture as needed.
  • Assist with set‑up and tear‑down for special events.
  • Report needed building repairs or safety issues to supervisor.
  • Comply with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and state health department requirements.
Skills & Abilities
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of custodial tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
  • Ability to use hand tools as needed.
  • Prioritizes tasks to meet schedules.
  • Analytical problem‑solving skills with minimal downtime.
  • Understanding of safe operation of machinery and cleaning chemicals.
  • Proactive in identifying and solving problems affecting equipment and processes.
  • Punctual and dependable attendance.
  • Completes work assignments to satisfactory completion.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Capacity to work in inclement weather, extreme heat or cold, or physically demanding conditions.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read, follow, and interpret safety rules and guidelines.
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods, climb, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Available to work after hours, holidays, and weekends when needed.
  • Recognized as an essential employee; must report to work as scheduled when university offices are closed or delayed.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical agility and dexterity.
  • Maintains a calm demeanor in adverse situations.
