The Inpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community. The registered nurse, as a licensed professional, will be responsible and accountable for his/her practice including compliance with American Nurses Association (ANA) Profession Standards and VHA policies

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

* Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

* Uses the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, evaluation) in delivering safe care and will accurately document care of patients.

* Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.

* Provide competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting.

* Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.

* Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team.

* Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes.

* Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.

* Actively participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs.

* Care for a wide variety of patients.

* Read and interpret electrocardiograms to detect dangerous or abnormal readings and notify the physician.

* Records vital signs, including oxygen levels, blood pressure, breathing patterns, and educates the patient and family.

* Will complete orientation and on-going mandatory education.

* Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence.

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards

Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Work Schedule:

Full Time:
Will consist of 7:00pm to 7:30am shifts and one 11:00pm to 7:30am shift per pay period. Weekends and holidays may be required.
